Book Blurb

Filed under: I'll Do It Myself — Glenda @ 2:46 pm

After several revisions and generous feedback from the folks at the CopyWriters Connection Network on Ryze, I now have an awesome blurb for promoting my book. Let me know what you think.

I’ll Do It Myself: A Collection of Memories from a Woman Living with Cerebral Palsy

by Glenda Watson Hyatt

Glenda has cerebral palsy. A lack of oxygen at birth meant she would not be able to walk, her hands would not function well and her speech would be almost impossible to understand. Her parents were advised to institutionalize her. She wouldn’t amount to anything, the experts said.

Yet, this gutsy redhead proved them wrong. Glenda was integrated into a regular classroom long before mainstream was a buzzword. She went on to earn the Canada Cord, the highest award in Girl Guides, and the Outstanding Junior Student Award. The girl who could not walk won a gold medal in horseback riding!

How did she do it? Read Glenda’s inspiring autobiography I’ll Do It Myself: A Collection of Memories from a Woman Living with Cerebral Palsy, due out later this year. Glenda intimately shares her life story to show others cerebral palsy is not a death sentence, but rather a life sentence.

  1. Glenda,
Hi, i read about your book on Pamela’s Cubicle Nation website. I salute you for this dream, do it! ….one thing, in order to get the book PUBlished by November, no physical book publisher can do it so quick, it takes about two years to make a book. But you could do this: find a Internet publisher like iUniverse or any other self-publisher on the Net, you pay for the copies sold, that’s all,it might cost around 1000 dollars to get the book online, and then people can read it for your birthday and word will spread online. to make a real paper book takes about two years in the USA, usually. I know, because i been there done that. but Internet is the new way to spread hope messages around the world, email me if you need more info. glad to help you get your project off the ground and into people’s MINDS….. 2. Glenda,

I, too, am working at getting my book published. I would be glad to help you in any way that I can, sharing what I have learned through this process. You might want to find an agent who would help you get the book into the hands of the right publisher. Lots of publishers do not accept submissions directly from authors, unless they’re already published. You might want to pick up a book like The Writer’s Handbook which lists agents and publishers. That is a good start. Also, in your pitch, I would write in the first person rather than third. In other words, “I have cerebral palsy.” Just a tip that an agent passed on to me.

I wish you the greatest success in getting your message of inspiration out there to the public. I am going to pass on your web site address to a teenager with cerebral palsy. I know she can benefit from your story.

Also, please check out my blog, “Spiritually Speaking” by Rev. Carla Golden at http://carlagolden.blogs.com .

    Abundant blessings,
    Carla Golden
