Book Blurb

Filed under: I'll Do It Myself — Glenda @ 2:46 pm

After several revisions and generous feedback from the folks at the CopyWriters Connection Network on Ryze, I now have an awesome blurb for promoting my book. Let me know what you think.

I’ll Do It Myself: A Collection of Memories from a Woman Living with Cerebral Palsy

by Glenda Watson Hyatt

Glenda has cerebral palsy. A lack of oxygen at birth meant she would not be able to walk, her hands would not function well and her speech would be almost impossible to understand. Her parents were advised to institutionalize her. She wouldn’t amount to anything, the experts said.

Yet, this gutsy redhead proved them wrong. Glenda was integrated into a regular classroom long before mainstream was a buzzword. She went on to earn the Canada Cord, the highest award in Girl Guides, and the Outstanding Junior Student Award. The girl who could not walk won a gold medal in horseback riding!

How did she do it? Read Glenda’s inspiring autobiography I’ll Do It Myself: A Collection of Memories from a Woman Living with Cerebral Palsy, due out later this year. Glenda intimately shares her life story to show others cerebral palsy is not a death sentence, but rather a life sentence.

Spring Solstice: New Season, New Goals – Update

Filed under: I'll Do It Myself — Glenda @ 4:59 pm

As I mentioned last week, one of my goals for the spring season was “to choose and set up a newsletter management service”. After some research and recommendations from my colleagues at the International Virtual Women’s Chamber of Commerce, many of whom use this kind of service to manage their newsletters, I decided to go with Aweber.com. They have reliable email deliverability, email follow up, ad tracking and real-time stats. Sounds good to me! My book update subscriber list is now automated and ready to go. Now I only need subscribers “to expand my book update subscriber list from an intimate number to 500!”

Spring Solstice: New Season, New Goals

Filed under: I'll Do It Myself — Glenda @ 10:28 pm

I just read Pamela Stewart’s Planning by the light of the moon: Spring Solstice is here!, in which she publicly states (and commits) her business goals for the next few months. Publicly announcing one’s goals is such a powerful concept, as I have experienced myself when I publicly committed myself to launching my autobiography I’ll Do It Myself: A Collection of Memories from a Woman Living with Cerebral Palsy on my 40th birthday - November 4, 2006! Although it yet remains to be seen if I will actually make that target, the support and encouragement I have received by publicly announcing my goal has been overwhelming. It has been awesome!

Writing, My Way

Filed under: Accessibility, I'll Do It Myself — Glenda @ 10:54 pm

When Emma Thompson was on Oprah’s show last week, she explained how she handwrites her screenplays, using a favourite pen from her Dad. My writing isn’t quite that idyllic. In fact, I would describe it as rather clumsy and painfully slow. (more…)
