What inspired me to start my business?

This morning I shared this story during the International Virtual Women’s Chamber of Commerce open house and thought I would share it here too.

While taking a pre-employment program for people with disabilities, the instructors were scrambling to keep busy. One day the computer instructor introduced me to basic HTML. I gobbled it up! I soon realized that, although I grew up in silence, I now had a way to communicate with the world. That realization was so exciting, so liberating!

Assisting the furry victims of Hurricane Katrina

My Faith kitty, my office assistant, my friend.

Watching the images caused by , my heart broke as people were rescued from rooftops while their loyal, four-legged friends had to be left behind, and as people were forced to abandon their furry friends by the roadside in order to have a ride to safety. Imagining how hard that must have been brings tears to my eyes. Yes, I am a softie when it comes to animals. I can’t imagine leaving my Faith kitty behind, especially with not knowing what would become of her.

Computer Program Means Freedom for Illiterate Individuals

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Surrey, BC – September 7, 2005 – UNESCO celebrates International Literacy Day on September 8th to recognize the efforts made to reduce illiteracy around the world. However, when there are 800 million illiterate adults, when two-thirds of the world’s illiterate adults are women, and when over 100 million school-age children never attend school, there still remains much to be done.
